JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville University men's golf team defeated Georgia Southern, 8.5-7.5, taking the victory after winning 3 of the four matches in the first round, securing 5.5 points with the Eagles earning 2.5 points in the first 18.
After a valiant comeback attempt for Georgia Southern in the second round, Jacksonville came away with 3 points winning two by one stroke to hold on for victory.
In the opening round,
Daniel Montalvo and
Brandon Lohr put on a dominant effort winning 5&4, taking five of the final 10 holes earning the win on the 15th hole.
Jack Neill and
Tomas Hjaltested were down late on the 13th hole, but battled back for victory taking the 15th and 17th hole to add a much needed point to the Dolphins tally.
Jackson Klauk, Montalvo and Neill highlighted the second round for JU, earning victories to hold the lead. Montalvo and Neill had to fight to the end in their match, each taking a one stroke victory. Klauk cruised in his match, picking up a 4&3 win after a hot start, winning the 3rd, 4th and 5th holes.
