Alija Heins won ASUN Defensive Player of the Week honors after a dominant week in front of the net for the Dolphins. She led JU to an undefeated weekend while recording 16 blocks.
Against Austin Peay, she led the Dolphins to a quick straight-sets victory. In the win, she totaled eight block assists, setting a new career high in the process. The very next day
against preseason ASUN No. 1 Lipscomb, she had eight more block assists as the Dolphins won in four sets.
Heins leads the conference in blocks per set in conference play, averaging 1.5 blocks per set against ASUN competition. She's averaging 1.05 blocks per set for the entire season. The Dolphins currently lead all ASUN teams in blocks in conference play, with 2.75 per set as a team.
Heins is the third Dolphin to win ASUN Defensive Player of the Week honors this year, joining sophomore
Haley Yount and senior
Kristina Nika. This is the first ASUN weekly honor of Heins's career.
Jacksonville returns to Swisher Gymnasium this weekend for a pair of matches. The Dolphins will host the Bellarmine Knights Friday, Oct. 17, at 7 p.m. Jacksonville will face the Eastern Kentucky Colonels Saturday, Oct. 18, at 5 p.m.
