JACKSONVILLE, Fla. --- Jacksonville sophomore
Haley Yount was named Atlantic Sun Player of the Week, the league announced Tuesday afternoon. This is Yount's second time winning ASUN Player of the Week, taking the season's inaugural award in September.
Yount dominated the middle against Bellarmine and Eastern Kentucky, continuing her record-smashing pace offensively and controlling the game on defense. She was efficient as ever against the Knights, totaling four kills on six swings. She built off of that performance with one of her best nights of the year against EKU.
Yount had one of her most effective performances of the year, totaling nine kills on 15 swings, good for a .600 hitting percentage. This was her third game with at least three kills per set hitting at least .600.
But it wasn't all offense for the sophomore from St. Louis. Yount also led the team with one solo block and six block assists. She's averaging 1.0 blocks per set, one of two Dolphins averaging at least one block per set this season.
Yount's metrics are not just off the chart for JU or the ASUN, she's the most efficient hitter in the country. Her .481 hitting percentage is .016 points higher than anybody else in the country, as large as the gap between the second and sixth best percentages in the NCAA.
The sophomore's breakout season is coinciding with a historic year for the Dolphins. JU is 17-3, the second best 20-match start to a season in program history. JU's 8-0 start in conference play is the best start to a conference season in school history.
Jacksonville will continue its season with a pair of in-state road trips this weekend. The Dolphins will travel to face the Stetson Hatters Friday, Oct. 24 at 6 PM. JU then faces the No. 3 team in the ASUN, Florida Gulf Coast, in a Sunday showdown at 1 PM. The FGCU match will be streamed on ESPN+.
