GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Making the trip back down to central Florida, freshman JU track and field phenom
Sanaa Geter once again put on a show.
Fresh off a
ASUN Freshman of the Week honor last week, Geter earned a gold medal podium placement in the long jump.
Geter beat out the competition with her 5.72 leap in the event, jumping .22 meters longer than the next closest competitor. The freshman wasn't done earning hardware however, as she also finished second overall in the triple jump.
In the triple, Geter earned silver with a 11.97-meter leap.
Jacksonville was plenty successful in other areas during the Legends of Alachua County Invitational.
Eva Bellot finished tied for fourth in the high jump after a 1.57 meter showing. In the 200 meter dash, Guatemalan Olympian
Mariandree Chacon took home second place with a 24.62 run.
During the second day of competition,
Joy Whittington took home bronze in the 60 meter hurdles. Whittington earned her third place finish with a 8.92 second finish.
"We had another strong weekend with solid performances across the board," head coach
Bambi Brundage said. "Sanaa is putting together an impressive freshman season and awe are excited to see what she can achieve. Now, our focus shifts to this Friday's competition and the indoor championships just three weeks away."
Jacksonville returns to the track Friday, Feb. 7 at the Celebration Pointe Classic which serves as the team's final regular season meet of the year before the ASUN Indoor Championships starting Feb. 27.
