Jacksonville Wraps Up Weekend at Wheeler Beach

JACKSONVILLE, Fla.-- Jacksonville Beach Volleyball traveled to Columbia, South Carolina, to compete in a two-day event at the Wheeler Beach courts, facing a strong slate of opponents including nationally ranked programs. Despite a number of competitive matches, the Dolphins dropped all four duals, falling to Coastal Carolina, FGCU, and Georgia State.

On Friday, Jacksonville opened the day against Coastal Carolina, ultimately falling 4-1. The lone win came at the third flight where Kristina Nika and Hayden Garnett defeated Kristyna Koblizkova and Maya McNabney 21-16, 7-21, 15-11. The top pair of Emily Kubicsko and Claire Mrukowski battled to three sets but came up short against Frida Meincke Lyo and Emma Kunaus, 21-18, 19-21, 15-13. Katie Martinez and Meredith Mrukowski fell in straight sets at the second position, while Morgan Perry and Kaitlyn Sereda dropped their fourth-flight matchup. In the fifth pairing, Kelly Erhard and Miller Reames were edged out by Celia Ryan and Karis Gordon in a close 21-16, 21-19 result.

In the afternoon, Jacksonville took on No. 20 FGCU in another tightly contested dual, ultimately losing 4-1. Martinez and Meredith Mrukowski provided a highlight at the third flight, earning a hard-fought three-set win over Emma Soncrant and Jacqueline Carpenter, 21-14, 13-21, 18-16. Kubicsko and Claire Mrukowski once again pushed their match to three sets before falling to Kaitlyn Luebbers and Nicole De Oliveira. The second flight saw Nika and Garnett fall 21-18, 21-18 to Ava Lilliquist and Alexis Keeter. Perry and Erhard dropped a tight contest at the fifth spot, and Sereda and Reames lost a three-set battle on court four.

Saturday's action opened against No. 15 Georgia State, where Jacksonville suffered another 4-1 defeat. Sereda and Reames picked up the Dolphins' lone win of the dual at the fourth flight, defeating Amanda Chambers and Caroline Zimovan 21-9, 16-21, 16-14. Kubicsko and Claire Mrukowski earned a first-set win on the top court but were edged in the final two sets by Ayla Johnson and Aree Keller. Nika and Garnett pushed their opponents, Aliisa Vuorinen and Ella Mozeleski, to three sets before ultimately falling 21-13, 20-22, 15-12. Meredith Mrukowski and Kyelynn Swink dropped their third-flight contest, while Perry and Erhard fell in two close sets at the fifth position.
