JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A pair of Jacksonville University standout track and field athletes have been named as weekly award winners, the conference announced Wednesday afternoon.
Junior jumper
Ma'Kala Davis and junior sprinter
Savannah Chadic each were awarded ASUN weekly awards, with Davis being named Field Athlete of the Week and Chadic being named Track Athlete of the Week.
The awards are the first of the season for the program and both firsts for each student-athlete.
Both Davis and Chadic were sidelined for the previous 2025 track and field season but have hit the proverbial ground running and hard in 2026.
At the Gainesville Indoor Classic last weekend, Davis took home first place overall in the triple jump with a soaring leap of 12.61m, a new personal best and the top overall jump in the ASUN this season.
Her first-place podium finish was her third already this season after earning a pair of golds
at the Legends of Alachua County the weekend prior. In her gold-earning long jump last week, Davis set her indoor personal best and leaped to the #1 conference ranking in that event as well.
As for Chadic, she also earned first place, but in the 400m dash. Chadic led the crowd with a final time of 54.81. She too earned back-to-back weekends of glory after taking home the gold in the 400 at the Legends meet.
Chadic's final time in the 400 at the Gainesville Indoor Classic set a personal best for the Key West native and placed her atop the conference standings for fastest time in the event thus far this season.
In the 200m dash, Chadic took home third place overall with a time of 24.61, finishing behind first-place earner and fellow Dolphin
Mariandree Chacon. Her final time was good enough for an indoor personal best and the fifth overall spot in the ASUN.
Jacksonville and its litany of personal bests, records lay idle until the end of the month when the squad travels to Louisville, Kentucky for the ASUN Indoor Conference Championships. The Dolphins are coming off last year's ASUN Indoor final where the team finished third overall.
