VALDOSTA, Ga. --- The Jacksonville men's golf team turned in a strong performance in the season finale, finishing in a tie for seventh at the Atlantic Sun Golf Championships this week.
The Dolphins were anchored by a star performance by sophomore
Brandon Lohr. A sixth-place finisher in this event a season ago, Lohr was even better this year at Kinderlou Golf Club. The Orlando, Florida native finished in a tie for third, the best finish by a JU player since 2023.
Jacksonville has had at least one individual place in the Top 10 at the ASUN Championship each of the last 11 seasons.
Lohr was dynamic all week for the Dolphins. He started with a clean one-under 71. He parred the entire front nine before scoring three birdies on the back to turn in a round in the red. After all pars on the front nine in Round One, he tore up the front side the rest of the week.
He turned in his best round of the week with a four-under 68 in round two. He posted four birdies on the front nine then a bogey-free, one-under on the inward nine.
Lohr and Jacksonville teed off on the 10th hole in the third and final round, and JU's talisman started slow with two bogies in his first three holes. Coming back to his favored front nine, though, Lohr caught fire heading into the clubhouse.
A birdie on the Par 5 second hole got him back to even on the day. He proceeded to birdie both of the Par 3's on the front, and he birdied his final two holes of the tournament to card a three-under 69 and lock in an eight-under tie for third place.
His third-round score was tied for the best individual outing of the day, rising him from a tie for fifth to a share of third. He was also named to the ASUN All-Tournament team for his performance.
Lohr was joined in the Top 30 by fellow sophomore
Andrew Morgan, who placed in a tie for 26th. Morgan was steady all week, starting with a one-over 73 and a three-over 75 in his first two rounds. In Thursday's finale, he started red hot.Â
Morgan birdied four of his first seven holes of the day, including three straight on the Par 5 14th, Par 3 15th and Par 4 16th. He got to four-under on his round with a birdie on the second. A late bogey and triple bogey ended his round a strong, even-par 72.
Sophomore
Will Harris earned a place in the Top 40 with a T38 finish. After an opening round 77, Harris turned in two solid rounds to close out the tournament. He carded four birdies in a an even-par second round before posting a two-over 74 in the final round.
Senior
Tomas Hjaltested closed his tournament with his best round of the week. He joined Lohr as one of 15 players under par on Thursday, carding a two-under 70. Hjaltested got as low as four under par, putting six birdies on the scorecard in his final round.
Hjaltested opened with rounds of 76 and 80, finishing in a tie for 43rd.
Fellow senior
Daniel Montalvo started for Jacksonville, carding a two-over 74 in the first round. Unfortunately he had to withdraw after the first round, pushing freshman
Evan Raynor into the fray.
He got better in each of his two rounds of play, opening with a second-round 79 before closing the week with a four-over 76.
On the team leaderboard, the Dolphins placed in a tie for seventh with North Alabama, posting a nine-over score to par.
