JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – After back-to-back two goal games, Jacksonville women's soccer senior
Alicia Rey Perez has been named the ASUN Player of the Week,
the league office announced Monday.
In her first season as a Dolphin, Rey Perez has made an instant impact. Prior to conference play, the forward had three total goals including two in the first two contests. Once conference play began Thursday, the Spaniard ratcheted things up a couple notches.
During the fifth minute of play against Queens to open ASUN competition, Rey Perez found the back of the net twice in 40 seconds to record her first brace of the season. Her opening goal at the 4:04 mark was all JU ended up needing in its 6-0 victory.
A few days later, Rey Perez was at it again, this time against West Georgia. In the 10
th minute of action, she found nylon for her third conference goal. Less than 10 minutes later, she scored again for her second consecutive brace during her team's 5-0 win.
Rey Perez not only leads the Dolphins in goals scored with her seven, but she is also tops among the ASUN. Her 13 shots on goal are second among her conference peers.
As for total points scored, a pair of Dolphins lead the way across the Atlantic Sun. Rey Perez is second overall in points with 16 generated, good for 2.00 a game. Fellow senior
Manuela Restrepo leads the conference with 17 total points.
This season, Rey Perez is the second Dolphin to be named Player of the Week, joining Restrepo who was awarded after the first week of play.
The 'Phins are back in action this week for a pair of games, starting with a non-conference tilt against South Carolina State. JU travels up to Orangeburg, S.C. for a Wednesday evening contest starting at 5 p.m.
JU returns to Jacksonville and ASUN play on Sunday, Sept. 28 across town at UNF for the first women's soccer River City Rumble. Kickoff at UNF is set for 7 p.m.
