Hall of Fame
Special Recognition - The 1976 Jacksonville baseball team is considered to be one of the most accomplished units of any in the history of Jacksonville athletics. Led by JU Hall of Fame coach Jack Lamabe, this team won the most games in a single season in the history of the storied baseball program, posting a 45-14 record including 37-6 record at home which is a program record, 86 percent winning percentage. That team achieved a regular season ranking as high as No. 5 and an end-of-season national ranking as high as No. 9 by Collegiate Baseball and began that historic campaign by winning a program-record 19 straight games. The team defeated Middle Tennessee State and Florida State in the Tallahassee Regional, coming up just one win short of the program's first College World Series. It stands as one of two teams in program history to win two games in the NCAA postseason and it was the first to win an NCAA Regional game of any kind. Two All-Americans came from that team and included eventual JU Hall of Fame inductee Albert "Rocky" Rausch. Five players from that team were drafted by Major League Baseball franchises.Â
