A two-sport athlete during her time at JU, Joanna Zayac was a star for the volleyball and softball teams from 1979-82. During her career in volleyball, Zayac and fellow Hall of Fame member Peggy Phillips led the Dolphins. Zayac was one of the finest female athletes to ever come through JU and the city of Jacksonville.

Competing in ASA softball tournaments for many years before college, Zayac was team captain and MVP her final year in softball at JU. Zayac was one of the best hitters in the country and was recognized by opponents at national tournaments for her power hitting and outstanding defensive ability.
