Brad Negaard was a three-time national champion during his three-year rowing career at JU from 1973-76. After graduating, he also coached four crew teams to national titles during his 10-year coaching career at JU. Additionally, he was also a member of the 1979 U.S. Pan-American team and the '91 Master's World Championship 8.

From 1987 to 2000, Negaard acted as the administrative director, active in fund raising and coaching staff support. One of his major contributions to the JU rowing program was to aid in the funding for JU’s state-of-the-art rowing center, opened in the fall of 2007, which is named in his honor.
