Ralph Tiner was a two-time NAIA All-American and a UPI Little All-American as a men’s basketball star at JU from 1961-65. At the time of his induction, Tiner was the only JU player to score more than 2,000 points and was the first player in the state history to accomplish the feat. He was also the Dolphins’ all-time leader in total points (2,184), field goals (815) and free throws (554).

As a junior in 1963-64, Tiner scored 656 points (then-5th best in JU single-season history) and averaged 25.2 points per game to be named to both All-America teams as an honorable mention. A career 21.4 points-per-game scorer, Tiner’s career average trails only three other inductees to the Hall of Fame (Strickland, Gilmore, and Morgan). At the time of his graduation from JU, Tiner was second on the career rebounding list, having grabbed 720 boards for a 7.1 per-game average.

In addition to his All-American honors, Tiner was selected to the All-Florida Intercollegiate Conference Team four times, including three first team honors. All this from a man whose career was delayed after serving a 26-month stint in the U.S. Army.
