Vaughn Wedeking was a three-year starter for the JU men’s basketball team from 1968-71. Among his many accolades, he earned Little All-American honors as a junior in 1970 when he helped lead the Dolphins to the NCAA National Championship game. Wedeking recorded a career-high 137 assists that year, which was third on JU’s all-time list at that time.

Upon his departure from Dolphin Athletics, Wedeking was second on the JU career assists list with 356, an average of 4.7 per game. He also held the second-highest single-season free throw percentage, as he hit .900 (36-40) from the charity stripe in 1968-69, his first season on the varsity team.

The Dolphins were 66-13 (.835) in his three seasons and qualified for the NCAA Tournament his final two years. JU also won three in-season tournaments with Wedeking, including the 1969 Evansville Invitational and Sunshine Classic, as well as the 1970 Civitan Classic. Wedeking was the first Dolphin to receive Academic All-American accolades in 1971, and was awarded an NCAA Post-Graduate Scholarship following his graduation.
